At 6 A.M. on November 1, 2009, a passerby (probably a locksmith coming back from a 24 hour emergency lockout service call) noticed some suspicious activity at the Quick Stop Liquor Store. Three men were struggling to dismantle a reinforced security door so they could remove a commercial safe. Police were called to the scene where they quickly apprehended the suspects as they were trying to make their escape.
According to investigators, it appears that the alleged perpetrators, Barry McDaniel, Darryl Franks and Christopher Session, had broken through the roof of the Quick Stop intending to steal the store's safe. This proved to be a bigger challenge than they expected as it required several hours just to pry the heavy-duty, commercial-grade safe free of its base and push it across the floor to the store's front door. There, the suspects were stymied by commercial-grade locks and a reinforced security door. Authorities believe that the suspects, all from Los Angeles, would have made a clean getaway with the Quick Stop's money had it not been for the time lost trying to deal with the safe. Instead they are now being held without bail in the Robert Presley Detention Center.
